Born digital archiving has adopted hardware and software tools that are typically used in law enforcement for forensic analysis. When NYPL acquired the papers from the estate of Timothy Leary in 2011, the archivists found a box of over 375 floppy disks. The process of not only accessing, but preserving and organizing the files and data on those disks involved forensic tools such as a write-blocker, a kryoflux drive, and the software AccessdData FTK.
