Warp and Weft Homepage

Abstract:

The Warp and Weft website is the culminating project for the Pratt SILS course “Programming for Cultural Heritage” with Prof. Chris Weller.  Devoted to the applications of linked open data to digital library, archive and museum collections, our team used Python, JSON, RDF, and Drupal to scrape collections, normalize data, and build our website.

The site brings together the overlapping but heterogeneous American textile collections from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum into one comprehensive textiles collection portal.  Our presentation will discuss the conception and creation of the site, from the underlying data model based on the one used by Europeana, to scraping museum websites for records, converting them to RDF triples, and the construction of the website using Drupal.
