Linked Incunables (http://www.linkedincunables.net) is a scholarly tool that provides geospatial referencing for works from the incunabular period (ca. 1455-1501) of early European printing and was developed using catalog information from the New York Public Library’s Rare Book Division. The data was harvested, converted to linked data format, and combined with additional sources, then visualized graphically. Our goal is to reveal patterns in the expansion of printing throughout the Western world and provide serendipitous discovery of new information through hidden relationships. It is our hope that this tool will facilitate new research and increased access to these rare materials.
