Comics are books and deserve an equal place on our shelves and in our digital resources. Come view my presentation and find out why both public and academic libraries should consider developing collections!
It contains portions of a recorded interview with Brittany Netherton of Darien Library in Darien, CT, where she is the current head of the Knowledge and Learning Services Department. She’s been instrumental in the development of Darien’s very special graphic novel collection, aimed at adult patrons. Brittany has had the honor to speak about graphic novel collection development, and a special subset, graphic medicine, at several conferences, including New York Comic Con, San Diego Comic Con and the New England Graphic Medicine Conference.
Together we will cover some of the benefits of the format of graphic novels, suggest some ways to get started, and outline some common challenges.
