Over the past decade, graphic novels (including comics and manga) have gradually been promoted as viable tools to promote literacy both inside and outside the classroom. Similar to the superheroes that got their start in comics, there seems to be no job that graphic novels cannot do: most importantly, they are here to save libraries, since librarians are specifically equipped to spread the word about the amazing power of graphic novels and how they can transform children into eager, engaged readers. Just as a superhero swells with pride when recognized by the public so, too, will children respond when put in touch with the reading materials that they adore, and then, their literary journeys will take flight.
