Increasing Visibility at the Thomas J. Watson Library

As part of a yearlong fellowship at the Watson Library, my Pratt classmate Grace Zhang and I worked on a variety of projects together and individually. As a team we worked on cataloging donations given to the Watson Library, processing periodicals and serials, and sending and receiving bookbindery orders.

For my individual project I used the NEH Grant guidelines set by Project Director Jared Ash to increase the Watson Library’s holdings of works by Latina artists. The NEH Grant supports the Watson Library’s goal to “assess, expand, and promote access to the Library’s collection of exhibition catalogs, monographs, and other publications that document, interpret, and illustrate the work of Indigenous American, Hispanic American, and Asian American/Pacific Islander artists.” Using the guidelines for searching, ordering, and cataloguing I acquired 7 books pertaining to women artists either working in or directly influenced by the Post-Revolutionary Period in Mexico (1930s-1950s).

Mary Dickson

Civic Commons Associate at Brooklyn Public Library

I am a dual degree student at Pratt in the School of Information and History of Art and Design departments where I am also earning an Advanced Certificate in Museum Studies. I have worked as an intern in a number of museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and am currently a Civic Commons Associate at the Brooklyn Public Library and a Editorial Assistant at the Pratt Institute. Projects of focus during my dual Masters include Latin American Art History, Museology, and Art Librarianship.
