Investigating street names in Flatbush that were named after families with a history of enslavement. Sharing the process of data visualization and analysis, and why mapping history to the present is important for education of slavery in the North.

This project was for my Programming for Cultural Heritage class where I learned Python. In the future, I hope that I can map the entirety of Brooklyn and incorporate more archival records as interactive elements.

Maya Davis
Maya is a first-year student at Pratt Institute pursuing a MLIS degree with a focus on archives. Her research interests include the Black diaspora, puppetry, textiles, historical maps, queer studies, comics, animation, and Caribbean history.
