Standardized subject languages dictate the terms used by libraries in their organization of knowledge. The Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), one of the most widely used standardized subject languages in the world, is littered with hierarchical terms inherited from patriarchal Western knowledge systems such as the LCSH for Human Beings, formerly Man up until Winter 1997. My project locates the vestiges of this former subject heading in the inadequate LCSH assigned to feminist sources that challenge patriarchal classifications of humans.
