Questions of the representation of women in mass media both as their portrayal in works in the public eye and their representation behind the scenes are increasingly being asked in today’s society. For this project, I decided to look at the medium of mass-marketed comic books to see if women are increasingly telling stories through this medium and if that is causing an evolution in the gender makeup of stories told in the medium as a whole. By using web-scraping tools, I obtained data from fan-curated wikia pages concerning several comic book publishers for years within 1995-2015. I classified the writer and artist by gender, and the
issues by gender makeup of the protagonist(s) in order to see if there were any trends.
