Abstract:
Land of the Free Music Archive uses data collected from the Free Music Archive and the Echo Nest APIs to visualize similarity assignments among artists. Music repositories like FMA and Spotify use the Echo Nest’s sonic analysis algorithms to create suggestions for users based on their musical tastes. If looked at in series, these suggestions present a giant web of artists connected via the similarities identified in their songs. I wanted to make this web visible, both as a discovery tool and as an avenue of inquiry into how genres interact at a large scale.
