Author: Avery Jonas

Avery Jonas is an archivist, technologist and multimedia + design enthusiast. They received a B.A. degree in Africana Studies from Pomona College and are currently pursuing a M.S. in Library and Information Science at Pratt Institute School of information. Their practice is rooted in community care and the preservation of historical, genealogical, and esoteric knowledge, particularly within Black and Indigenous communities. They are also interested in open source software and technology that allows folks to easily document, preserve, and share their knowledge and productions. Complementary to their passion towards open access is their commitment to privacy and self-sovereignty under a surveillance state, specifically within community-based archives, critical librarianship, and counter-surveillance tactics. Their inspiration draws from the praxes of generations of Black intellectuals, radical information seekers and specialists, fugitive librarians, and those who devoted their time, energy, and resources into viable futures.
