Data Sources

Research for this project began with consultation of Google Trends searches of “fake news” as well as Pew Research Center reports about fake news and election news sources (for more details, see About).

Data for this project was collected from three main sources from early November 2016 to early March 2017:

  • LexisNexis, a database of international news articles
  • TV Archive, a collection of closed-captioned U.S. television news programs
  • Twitter, a social media platform

Details about the collection, analysis, and visualization methods for each of these sources is available at the links above. Results are presented in Analysis and we reflect critically on these sources in Media Literacy.
