The Advanced Certificate in Digital Humanities reflects the latest trends in the intersection of digital humanities and the information professions, including digital cultural heritage; data collection, analysis, and visualization; instructional technology and pedagogy; user experience; and the changing natures of research, publication, and outreach in the digital age. Courses emphasize the special role of information professionals in supporting digital humanities research, teaching, and professional activities.
By the end of this program, students will
- understand and describe current topics in digital humanities, including theory, methods, and applications, and develop critical perspectives on them;
- develop relevant skills in digital content, research, technology, and user experience; and
- be prepared to apply these skills appropriately in academic and cultural heritage contexts.

The advanced certificate program consists of 12 credits (four 3-credit courses): two required courses and two electives.

Admissions Requirements
Applicants to the stand-alone certificate program must:
- hold a Master’s degree from an accredited program in the humanities or library/information science or be pursuing a Master’s degree in those areas;
- have a superior scholastic record with a minimum 3.0 GPA;
- submit an application form (from Pratt’s Office of Admissions), non-refundable application fee, and official transcripts;
- submit a statement of purpose (approx. 2 pages); and
- submit a current resume with the names of three employers, professors, or others able to judge the applicant’s technical potential.

Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with decisions made by an Admissions Committee consisting of the program coordinator, the Dean of the School of Information and Library Science, and the Advisor for Academic Programs. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 must provide evidence of their ability to perform graduate-level work, which may include professional experience in a relevant industry. The Admissions Committee may also request that applicants take the Graduate Record Examination when it is judged that there is some question as to their academic ability. An interview may be required. The Advisor for Academic Programs will contact applicants if any of these actions are deemed necessary.
