Project Description
A data-physicalization installation that visualizes the commuter flows between New York City and its surrounding metro region.
Data Source: The Ins and Outs of NYC Commuting
Material: foam clay and wool on a circular canvas, with found round-head bolts.
This is a data-physicalization object that visualizes the commuter flows between New York City and its surrounding metro regions—Mid Hudson, Lower Hudson, Inner New Jersey, Outer New Jersey, Southwest Connecticut, and Long Island. Drawing inspiration from the organic growth of mycelium, the object represents the city as a central hub, with filaments extending outward to mimic the daily movements of residents.
The object is made with clay and wool on a circular canvas, with found round-head bolts to divide the sections proportionally.
