Apple Inc is a company that needs no introduction. Every 5 out of 10 Americans own an Apple iPhone. The average American household owns around over two apple devices. Many households own at least one Apple device, and some own up to ten devices. Even though their competitors make just as many products of the same quality(maybe even superior), why do so many people own Apple products?

Marketing is one of the most significant contributing factors to Apple’s rise. You can see Apple’s marketing technique in its website and ads. Apple products personify lifestyle, innovation, passion, fashion, and simplicity from their use of stylish images and videos to the sleek and contemporary design of their products what user base wouldn’t want to own a product like that. The Apple site looks like a highly interactive modern art museum displaying the brilliance of apple. Apple plays on the human emotion of fitting. The message they try to convey is that you need our product to make your life whole. Apple appeals to a person’s wants and needs to be a part of the trend. Every year when Apple unveiled a new product, they made it feel like the next big thing that is a necessity.

Reputation is the other major factor. Apple has an extensive history in the technology field. Steve Jobs had helped Apple innovate some of the most significant human technology still in use today, such as portable phones, laptops, and desktops. Apple successfully became one of the first corporations to personalize each of those devices and turn them into household items.

Let’s take a look at Apple’s 50 year-long history and see some of its most important technological innovations.

Apple II (1977)

This was released in April of 1977. It was marketed and sold as the first mass-produced personal computer. This marked a shift in the computer industry, taking these devices from the hands of big businesses and government to the hands of the normal American.

Lisa I(1983)

Apple released Lisa I, the first computer with a GUI(Graphic User Interface) and the first mouse. The mouse was the killer feature of this device making usability much easier. This was made with business in mind.

Apple Macintosh(1984)

After much demand from the American public the Lisa I was turned into the Macintosh. Which also featured a GUI, but lowered the overall performance to meet the needs and affordability of the average consumer.

Apple iMac G3(1998)

The first all in one personal computer with a built in audio jack, USB ports, ethernet port, and CD disk drive. This was the first of Apple’s iMac series which still continues to this day.

Apple iPod(2001)

The first portable music player to replace the portable CD player. This device pioneered Apple’s click wheel. Made it possible for an individual to carry hundreds of songs in their pockets.

Apple iPhone(2007)

The first iPhone ever made. Selling over 6 million units during its lifetime. Pioneered the development of the smartphone. It became the first fully touch screen device, where all functions were carried with a tap of the screen.

Apple iPhone 4s(2011)

The iPhone that introduced the killer feature of the front facing camera, this feature has since become the killer feature for all smartphones since. This was also released a day after the untimely passing of Steve Jobs.

Apple iPhone 12 Pro(2020)

This is the current generation of iPhone that utilizes 3 cameras to increase camera field of view and to add night mode. Also comes with Face ID unlock.

Apple MacBook Air 13′(2020)

This is the current generation of Macbooks. Apple introduced its very own M1 core processing chip to replace intel core within their devices.

As you can see, in almost five decades, Apple has made leaps and bounds in its iterations of the computer and phone. These changes have been so drastic that you could call it the evolution of modern technology wrapped in the Apple bubble. It’s due to this innovative and evolutionary history that Apple has developed into such an accredited brand. While most companies have to prove the quality of their products to consumers, Apple naturally has the consumer’s trust in quality.

Next time you find yourself wondering what the big deal is with Apple, remember that they make it all about you.
