DINOcent

Description:

This project was undertaken in my third semester, as an individual assignment where the class was tasked with imagining a responsive app that served a specific user group. Using various research methods to best understand their needs, and utilizing principles of Emotional Design to iterate several versions, I ultimately produced a text-based mobile app to guide school-aged children through specific dinosaur exhibits of the American Museum of Natural History.

My Role:

Working independently, I conducted interviews, completed research and produced user personas to best inform my design process.

Methods:

Reaching out to personal connections in the elementary school teaching community, I was also greatly aided by the cooperation of Adjunct Assistant Professor Pamela Pavliscak in engaging school-aged users for crucial feedback in emotional response activities. The accumulated data was used to craft personas which informed my prototype iterations from paper mock-ups to higher fidelity versions created using the online Miro platform.

Rationale:

This project demonstrates an effective investigation into information environments, as well as audience needs, behaviors, and experiences through appropriate research methods and data analysis. Because of this, I believe the totality of my work in creating DINOcent demonstrates well the Research Student Learning Outcome.
