The collection has closed caption texts of US TV News shows from year 2009 to the present.<\/p>\n<p>Data on newscasts discussing &#8220;fake news&#8221; were collected\u00a0from the TVNews Archive using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/advancedsearch.php\">Internet Archive\u2019s Advanced Search<\/a>\u00a0function and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mstem\/archive.org-getter\">a Ruby script<\/a>. About\u00a04,814 newscasts were\u00a0collected from the time period November 7, 2016 \u2013\u00a0March 7, 2017. Data were cleaned and reformatted for analysis using <a href=\"https:\/\/openrefine.org\/\">Open Refine<\/a>.\u00a0Special attention was paid to show, station, topic,\u00a0and date fields, as well as the snippet, a short excerpt of the transcript surrounding the first occurrence of &#8220;fake news.&#8221; Term frequency data per\u00a0day was calculated\u00a0from the snippets using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.r-project.org\/\">R <\/a>(<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/arc12\/Text-Mining-Weak-Signals\/wiki\/Standard-set-of-english-stopwords\">stopwords<\/a> were removed and terms were <a href=\"http:\/\/snowball.tartarus.org\/algorithms\/porter\/stemmer.html\">stemmed<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The TVNews dataset\u00a0was analyzed using <a href=\"https:\/\/public.tableau.com\">Tableau Public<\/a>.
