The goal in generating these graphics is to visualize the metadata that surrounds these precious works in order to gain a more nuanced understanding of their collective history in the context of the Museum, and an overall impression of the collection&#8217;s strengths and weaknesses with respect to areas including genre and artist. A blue gradient is used throughout to correlate with the early-modern hierarchy of genres, a system promoted by seventeenth-century art theorists including Joachim van Sandrart (1606-1688) and Charles Le Brun (1619-1690).
