The Cartography Milestone of Information Visualization in the 19th Century

Visualization

The Cartography Milestones of Information Visualization in the 19th Century timeline utilizes information from the source Milestones in the History of Thematic Cartography, Statistical Graphics, and Data Visualization to create an interactive visualization of cartography in the 1800s. The project and topic were selected as a practice exercise in using TimelineJS to visualize longitudinal data. Most images seen in the slideshow accompanying the timeline are found on http://datavis.ca/milestones/ and serve as inspiration for the topic. TimelineJS utilizes google spreadsheets and an html file to host the timeline visualization. This may be applicable when aggregating information from a bulk data set that takes place over time. Information is easier to ingest and understand in parts, rather than as a whole.
