The Institute of Jazz Studies is the world’s foremost jazz archive and research facility,” the Rutgers University library’s website rightly boasts. In 2013 the New Jersey Center for the Book (NJCB) designated the IJS a Literary Landmark, saying, “The Institute of Jazz Studies, the world’s largest public jazz archive, holds a priceless collection of print, sound and visual materials and makes these items available to scholars to promote and preserve the uniquely American musical form, jazz.”

We believe the IJS should have a web presence that matches its distinguished reputation. Unfortunately, the current website, while actively maintained and updated, has grown in a haphazard manner over a period of many years without any substantial updates to its design or architecture, nor any weeding of out-of-date content. To help the IJS make its one-of-a-kind collection even more accessible, our group completed a user-centered redesign of the IJS site.
